Data Backup and Restore

 

**Backup and restore is now available!** You can save your game progress to a file and restore it later.

**How to create a backup:**
1. Open the app and tap the **Settings** button (⚙️) in the top right
2. Scroll to the **"Backup & Restore"** section
3. Tap **"📤 Export Backup"**
4. Choose where to save the file (Downloads, Google Drive, etc.)
5. The backup will be saved as a JSON file with a timestamp (e.g., `pixelfishtank-backup-2024-01-15-1430.json`)

**How to restore from backup:**
1. Open Settings and go to **"Backup & Restore"**
2. Tap **"📥 Import Backup"**
3. Select your backup JSON file
4. Confirm the import (this will replace your current progress)
5. Wait for the restore to complete

**What's included in backups:**
- Fish stats (hunger, cleanliness, happiness, level, XP)
- Coins and inventory items
- Placed decorations in your tank
- Daily tasks progress and streaks
- App settings and preferences
- Mini-game high scores

**Important notes:**
- Backups are saved as JSON files on your device
- You can manually copy backups to cloud storage (Google Drive, etc.)
- Importing a backup will **overwrite** your current progress
- Always create a backup before importing if you want to keep your current progress
- The app shows when you last created a backup in the Settings screen

**Best practices:**
- Create backups regularly (weekly or monthly)
- Store backups in multiple locations (device + cloud)
- Create a backup before major app updates
- Keep multiple backup files if you want to restore to different points in time
